Vajreshwari

Vajreshwari village is situated on the banks of Tansa River at the foothills of the Mandagiri hillock. It is famous for the Vajreshwari Devi Temple and hot water springs emerging from the surrounding volcanic mountains. Vajreshwari Temple is the oldest temple of this region. Goddess Vajreshwari is also known as Goddess Parvati. The Navratri festival is celebrated at this temple during which, a grand fair is organised in honour of the Goddess Vajreshwari. There are around 21 hot water springs in this region and most of them are named after Hindu Deities such as Chandra, Agni, Rama, Sita, Lakshmi, Vayu and Surya. According to legend, the hot water is the blood of demons and giants who were slain by the goddess Vajreshwari. Pilgrims who visit the temple also have a holy bath in the springs. Akloli Kund, situated near the Vajreshwari Temple, is one of the famous hot springs, which is rich in sulphur and minerals. Local inhabitants believe that these hot springs have medicinal properties and can cure many diseases.
