Tuljapur is a famous spiritual town in Osmanabad district. The town is home to the Tulja Bhavani Temple which is considered as one of the 51 Shakti Pithas. The Tulja Bhavani Temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Bhavani. Historically this temple was built in 12th century. The Goddess Bhavani is the family deity of many people from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. Goddess Bhavani is the family deity of the Bhosale clan to which Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged. Shivaji Maharaj , the founder of Maratha kingdom, always visited this temple to seek blessings of Tulja Bhavani. There is a legend that the Goddess gave him a sword called Bhavani Talwar by using which Shivaji was successful in his expeditions.
