Shrivardhan

Shrivardhan town is indeed scenic with its spread out plantation of betel nut trees. With its typical Konkani houses constructed with red tiled roofs and the many wadis off the seashore. it’s a place perfect for a weekend relaxation. Shrivardhan was the home town of the Peshwas. It is notable as the birthplace of Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa (1713–1720) who was the Deshmukh of the town. Balaji was the first Peshwa of Maratha Empire appointed by Chhatrapati Shahu, grandson of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The third Peshwa, Balaji Bajirao, built a huge house here in 1750, which has recently been renovated. The statue of Balaji Vishwanath was also installed here in 1988. The Shri Laxminarayan Temple is the main temple of Peshwas.
