Nevasa is ancient spiritual town on the banks of river Pravara. Nevasa is mainly famous for the ancient Mohiniraj temple and the Pais Khamb where Dnyaneshwari (Bhavarthdipika) was written by Saint Dnyaneshwar in 12th century. There was a temple of Karaveereswar, Saint Dnyaneshwar wrote the holy book Dnyaneshwari in this temple. Saint Dnyaneshwar wrote Dnyaneshwari sitting attached to The Pillar - Pais Khamb. The Pais Khamb is at the same place where it was and a temple is constructed around it. Mohiniraj temple, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to a legend when the sea was churned to get nectar, Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Mohini to distract the demons and deprive them of nectar. The demons stared at Mohini while Lord Vishnu distributed nectar to the gods. The Rahu and Ketu tried to get the amruth and Lord Vishnu beheaded Rahu at this place. The Mohiniraj is the family deity of many houses in Maharashtra. The new structure of this temple was constructed in 1773 by Gangadhar Yashwant Chandrachude. The 75 feet tall temple is decorated all over with ornamental work.
