Matheran means ‘forest on the top of the mountains’ Matheran located on a plateau in the eco sensitive western ghats. It is a tiny hill station 800 m above sea level with dense forest. Hugh Poyntz Malet, the then Thane District Collector discovered it in the year 1850. Since then motor vehicles are not allowed here and it remains unpolluted, hassle free. It’s really a very fantastic nature's paradise. There are several view points from where you can have stunning views of mountains, valleys, forest, sunrise and sunset. The Neral to Matheran narrow gauge heritage mini train is major tourist attraction here. Covering a distance of around 20 km in mountain ranges it reach the Matheran.
